Our History & Mission

The NTHU Writing Center was officially established on January 10, 2002, under the division of Office of Academic Affairs. It was the first writing center held among all academic institutes in Taiwan, which offered professional and academic writing consultation services. In the age of information, it is of vital importance to have the ability to express one’s ideas clearly and effectively both in writing and orally. In consideration of the significance of literacy proficiency to students, the NTHU Writing Center was therefore established to foster literacy education drawing on experiences of top-tier universities of the world.

For long, Writing Centers, either entitled “Writing Clinic” or “Writing Lab” by some other institutes, have been popular internationally. Writing Centers mainly offer individual consultations and workshops on writing. In the same vein, the NTHU Writing Center aims to serve as a channel for learning to write beside regular academic curriculum. Meanwhile, the Writing Center has been committed to learning materials development on Chinese and English writing as well as teacher training.
